How One Becomes a Christian
Understand that God created us for His glory. The Bible Says... "Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth,...whom I created for my glory." Isaiah 43:6-7 God made us in order to enjoy Him and be enthralled by Him. We bring Him the most glory by being fulfilled in who He is for us.
Understand that every human should live for the glory of God. The Bible Says... "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." I Corinthians 10:31 If God created us to enjoy Him and glorify Him, then everything we do is to be toward that end. In other words, humanity's number one priority must be to do everything they do in order to display His greatness.
Understand that all of us have failed miserably to glorify God as we should. The Bible Says... "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 Instead of enjoying God as the supreme treasure of our lives, we have turned to other things that bring us joy. We have trusted in other things to do for us what only God can do. we have refused to walk in His ways or been obedient to what He has called us to do.
Understand that all of us rightly deserve to be condemned justly by God. The Bible Says... "The wages of sin is death..." Romans 6:23 "They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction and exclusion from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might." II Thessalonians 1:9 What the verses above indicate is that because we have failed to glorify God with ou lives and lived in direct disobedience to Him, we deserve to be punished by Him. Just as when one goes to work at a job site he or she deserve a wage, so too human sins against God deserves the wage of eternal separation from Him in hell.
Understand the greatest news in the universe that God sent His only Son, Jesus, to provide eternal life and joy.
The Bible Says... "Christ Jesus Came into the world to save sinners..." I Timothy 1:15 "For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring us to God." I Peter 3:18 Though all of us rightly deserve eternal separation and punishment from God, He did for us what we could not do on our own: He sent Jesus to take on the punishment in our place. Jesus became our substitute. Jesus came to take on the guilt we deserve. Jesus came to take on the pain we deserve. Jesus came to take on the shame that we deserve. Jesus is our Savior. The only way to get to God is by believing on Jesus as one's only hope to be made right and forgiven. Three days after His death, Christ rose from the dead. His resurrection conquered death and indicated the defeat of sin. He now reigns as Lord over all things.
Understand and believe and embrace the fact that the benefits purchased by the death of Christ belong to those who repent of their sin and trust Him. The Bible Says... "Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved." Acts 16:31 "Repent" means to turn from all the deceitful promises of sin. "Faith" means being satisfied with all that God promises to be for us in jesus. Jesus says, "He who believes in me shall never thirst" (John 6:35). We do not earn our salvation. We can not merit it (Romans 4:4-5). It is by grace alone and through faith alone (Ephesians 2:8-9). It is a free gift that must be received (Romasn 3:24). It is ours when we value and cherish it above all things (Matthew 13:44). When we acknowledge Jesus as our only Savior (from sin and unrighteousness and living in opposition of His glory) and Lord (what He says rules everything in our lives) and embrace Him as our Treasure (He has become the most beautiful and valuable thing to us in all the universe).
