Purpose of Wynne Baptist Church
The purpose of Wynne Baptist Church is to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love all peoples as we love ourselves. To say it another way, everything we do as a body of believers resides in loving God supremely and loving people ‘selfishly.’
Why is this the purpose of WBC?
- Jesus says these are the greatest commandments.
- Jesus says that these commandments sum up all of the Law and the Prophets (see Matthew 22:34-40). In other words, the totality of Scripture can be summed up with these two commandments.
- These commandments cannot genuinely and effectively happen until a soul is regenerated (see Mark 12:28-34).
- Jesus says that doing these commandments equal true life (see Luke 10:25-28). Thus, if we are going to truly and genuinely live, it comes when we are loving God supremely and loving people selfishly.
We believe that the greatest Being in all of the universe is God. There is nothing greater than knowing and loving and enjoying Him forever. Thus, knowing Him for who He is as He reveals Himself in His Word is of utmost importance. One cannot love what he or she does not know. Likewise, helping others come to enter a relationship with Him through faith in Christ is the primary way we express our love for others. Understanding Him through understanding how He has revealed Himself from His Word and serving others so that they might come to know and understand and embrace Him as their treasure is the sum of all we do. |
